The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth.
The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings.
The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is looking for an International Project Manager to join the International team of the Research Grants Office. The International grants office is responsible of the pre and post award phases of the competitive international grants and fellowships including European and other international funding sources.
MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
The candidate will primarily focus on the pre-award phase of international competitive projects proposals:
• Identification of international funding opportunities and effective dissemination within the IJC research groups (such as elaboration of a newsletter, call dissemination by email, etc).
• Participate in and coordinate the preparation, submission, and follow-up of international research proposals (Horizon Europe, IMI, IHI, NIH, etc.), from concept stage to contract signature
• Participate in the promotion activities of the Unit, including organisation of information days and training activities addressed to the scientific staff.
• Establish fluid communication with the different funding institutions, other research institutions, as well as with Josep Carreras’s Group Leaders and research support departments (mainly HR, Finance, KTT, and Purchasing Departments).
• Collaborate with the post-award manager/s during the implementation of the projects. It is expected that the selected candidate provides support to the post-award management team.
• Participate in other transversal tasks of the International Projects Office with other departments (HR, KTT, finance, communication, etc) when required.
• Maintain data and information on grants in the institutional data bases.

WHAT WE NEED
Required skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences; a doctoral degree would be an asset (other degrees will be accepted as well if the candidate has proven working experience in biomedical research grants preparation).
• Languages: proficiency in English. Fluency in other languages will be a plus.
• Proactive, able to work autonomously, and to take full responsibility for assigned tasks.
• Well organised person with very good attention to detail and the ability to work with tight deadlines, handle varying workloads with independency.
• Excellent teamwork abilities with good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Desired skills
• Certified training in project management (Master, post-graduate training or similar).
• Proven working experience of minimum 2-3 years in biomedical research grants management.
• Knowledge of the European funding programs (Horizon Europe, other EU funding programs will be a plus).
• Good knowledge of Office 365; advanced Excel skills.
• Desirable competences: high scientific written skills, good communication and listening skills, good team player, problem-solver and customer-oriented, high-performance capacity and high level of self-motivation, positive attitude and able to work with different internal and external collaborators with different professional profiles.

The Catalan government provides hard money on an annual basis. The Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation provides start-up funds, project funds as well as financial support for investments.
The JCI has an international scientific advisory board served by prominent researchers from US and Europe.
The IJC has been awarded ERC and other EU grants.
