The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth.
The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings.
The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is looking for a Senior HR Officer for the The People and Culture Unit
People and Culture Unit aim to reinforce IJC’s mission through delivering high-level services throughout the organization. The People and Culture Unit deals with all issues related to the employee life cycle: recruitment and selection, contracting, training and development, promotion, compensation and benefits, health, and safety, employee and student visa, onboarding and leave management.
MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
• Manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contract management, payroll preparation and offboarding processes.
• Execute the work contracts, renewals or modifications for our staff according to the current regulations applicable to the research sector and the requirements of the funding agencies.
• Manage the monthly payroll process, including calculation review and coordination with external providers. Control of variable compensation and reimbursement processes, including flexible remuneration schemes, mileage and per diems.
• Contribute to the staff budget preparation and its follow up in collaboration with the Unit Head taking into account the information from the Labs/Units/Departments.
• Manage HR operational follow-up processes, including sickness leaves (ITs), maternity, paternity, and breastfeeding leave tracking.
• Handle contract termination processes, including final settlements and documentation.
• Ensure accurate control and monitoring of predoctoral staff administrative processes.
• Support the Head of Unit in talent management, administrative functions, and policy development.
• Track and report on key HR metrics and KPI’s (headcount/FTE, salary evolution, cost per hire, forecast scenarios, etc.).
WHAT WE NEED
• University degree in Labour Relations or similar.
• Postgraduate or Master’s in Human Resources or similar will be a plus.
• At least 5 years of experience in an HR unit with a generalist background.
• Experience working in a scientific environment, including knowledge of scientific grants, projects, and contracts will be a plus.
• Full professional proficiency in Spanish and Catalan.
• Intermediate level of English (written and spoken); advanced level will be considered an asset.
• Experience in SAP, A3 will be a plus.
• Experience with standard computer tools: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Proactive, responsible, and well-organized.
• Willingness to learn and ability to work independently.
• High sense of confidentiality.
• Adaptability to user demands.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

The Catalan government provides hard money on an annual basis. The Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation provides start-up funds, project funds as well as financial support for investments.
The JCI has an international scientific advisory board served by prominent researchers from US and Europe.
The IJC has been awarded ERC and other EU grants.
