The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth.
The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings.
We are looking for a Senior Purchasing Officer to join the IJC Purchasing Unit.
YOUR MISSION
The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is seeking an experienced Senior Purchasing Officer to coordinate a diverse array of operations in our institute.
MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
- Coordinate priority institutional procurements directly linked to strategic IJC initiatives, including PATH2CURE, C22D, and director-driven special projects.
- Serve as the primary procurement liaison with partner hospitals and allied institutes on the Can Ruti campus (e.g., IGTP, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Sant Pau, Clínic, Trueta, etc.), ensuring aligned purchasing strategies for shared platforms and collaborative programs.
- Implement procurement strategies to support multi-institutional technology platforms, ensuring rapid, compliant acquisition of cutting-edge instrumentation.
- Manage acquisitions for new core facilities, scientific technology updates, and competitive institutional initiatives that enhance the IJC’s international research profile.
- Ensure that procurement activities contribute directly to strengthening IJC’s competitiveness, scientific excellence, and international visibility.
- Support the rollout of new platforms and initiatives that respond to the Institute Director’s strategic vision—e.g., infrastructure expansions, shared resource development, computational growth, and clinical-translational initiatives
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key vendors in genomics, sequencing, imaging, high-performance computing, and other high-impact scientific domains.
- Lead and coordinate negotiations for supply agreements and other relevant contracts, reporting outcomes to the Head for final validation and decision.
- Prepare procurement dossiers for audits, certifications (e.g., CERCA, Severo Ochoa), and quality processes, ensuring transparent, traceable decision-making for high-value acquisitions.
- Manage the full procurement cycle for scientific equipment, lab consumables, services, and general supplies.
- Support research groups and core facilities with purchasing needs, technical specifications, and procurement procedures.
- Negotiate with suppliers to ensure best value, quality, and delivery performance.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and public procurement regulations.
- Coordinate purchase orders, deliveries, and documentation with logistics and finance teams.
- Maintain supplier relationships and resolve issues related to orders, invoices, or service contracts.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and process improvement. Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, agencies, and stakeholders.
WHAT WE NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, ideally in a research, scientific, or technical environment.
- Solid knowledge of purchasing procedures, contract management, and supplier negotiations.
- Experience with public procurement regulations is a strong plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to support scientific teams.
- Fluency in English and Spanish; Catalan is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Office 365;

The JCI has an international scientific advisory board served by prominent researchers from US and Europe.
