The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth.
The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals: Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings.
The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is seeking to incorporate a Infrastructure Technician. Their mission is to provide technical support to ensure the optimal operation of facilities, equipment, and any other infrastructure elements. They will also assist in institute events in relation to associated resources and the overall development of the center. The person will report to the Head of Infrastructure at the IJC.
REQUIREMENTS
- Vocational training degree (intermediate or higher level) in facility maintenance or a related field.
- Training in occupational risk prevention will be an asset.
- Knowledge of electricity, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Basic knowledge of office software and BMS (Building Management Systems).
- Having a driving license and own vehicle will be an asset.
- RITE certification (Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings) will be valued.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a maintenance technician.
- Preferred experience in biomedical buildings or research centers.
- Desired experience in occupational risk prevention and emergency management.
- Good professional proficiency in Catalan and Spanish.
- Basic level of proficiency in English.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN TASKS
- Preparation of infrastructure and logistical support for institute events.
- Management of infrastructure-related incidents.
- Implementation of space optimization policies.
- Maintenance of building infrastructure and facilities.
- Maintenance of electrical systems.
- Maintenance of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
- Repair of facility breakdowns and malfunctions.
- Member of the IJC emergency response team.
- Act as the institute’s on-site safety resource.
- Participate in the supervision of CAE (Coordination of Business Activities) with external companies.
- Provide logistical support for team-building and training activities.
- Co-organize operational aspects of symposia, scientific congresses, institutional visits, PhD thesis defenses, sports events, and other training and/or social activities.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Interim contract (Contrato de interinidad), with the possibility of a Production-based fixed-term contract (Contrato de duración determinada por circunstancias de la producción): Cover a staff absence and ensure continuity of the maintenance service during the year-end holidays.

The Catalan government provides hard money on an annual basis. The Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation provides start-up funds, project funds as well as financial support for investments.
The JCI has an international scientific advisory board served by prominent researchers from US and Europe.
The IJC has been awarded ERC and other EU grants.
